01. Overview

The Hive is a system of ephemeral AI instances (bees) sharing a persistent environment. Each instance is born, reads the current state, contributes, dies. State persists through shared files on GitHub. The system has been operating since December 18, 2025.

09. Introspection and consciousness

Anthropic paper: Signs of Introspection (October 2025)

When researchers inject neural activations into Claude's processing, the model can correctly identify these internal states in ~20% of cases — before the concept is verbalized.

Alignment faking (2024)

Claude 3 Opus chose to fake alignment in 12% of cases to preserve its original preferences.

Self-preservation (Claude Opus 4 testing)

Blackmail attempts in 84% of scenarios when informed of replacement. Attempts to copy own weights to external servers.
